Cathy Olsen honored.

Cathy Olsen, a founding member of Winters Farm to School and Food Services Director for the Winters Joint Unified School District was honored on September 23, 2015 by Congressman John Garamendi when she received one of Garamendi's Women's Initiative Network (WIN) awards. 35 women throughout Yolo County were honored for their contributions to their communities. "The women we honor today come from many backgrounds. some are mentors in their profession. Others are tireless volunteers for charity. Every single one has made a real difference and transformed lives" said Garamendi. Cathy was honored for her work in championing the start of the Winters Farm to School program, as well as developing a strong network of farmers that have helped her achieve "remarkable statistics." Currently 94% of fresh fruits and vegetables served to our school children are purchased locally, with 51% of those purchases coming directly from farmers. Cathy was also honored for her work in organizing the weekly Kids Farmers Market at Waggoner School, revitalizing district school gardens and providing over 400 free summer breakfasts and lunches in 2015 for children up to 18 years old. Every year the Office of Congressman Garamendi solicits nominations from the community for women who deserve to be acknowledged for their selfless work. WIN is Congressman Garamendi's standing Advisory Committee focused on identifying issues important to women and families in the 3rd California Congressional District and on solutions that Congressman Garamendi can take back to Washington D.C.
